Colouring inside the lines 2

I went on holiday and didn't have access to my digital tablet. So I bought some coloured pencils and a fine-liner and learned to colour traditionally! 
Over the course of about 9 days I did 20 pages. The things I learned over that time are documented in this journal, which contains advice from more experienced artists too: 
Colouring inside the linesI was on holiday for about 10 days, and therefore didn't have access to my digital tablet. Instead, I decided to practice drawing using more traditional means. Specifically I practiced using a pencil, fine-liner and coloured pencils.
So I went and bought the cheapest fine-liner and coloured pencils I could find. The fine-liner seemed fine, but the pencils... not so much .
Learning to colour
I actually made a thread to ask for help from more experienced deviants.
The key lesson I received from the thread was:
Do not use cheap pencils!
Using low quality pencils was very difficult due to them giving off less pigment when used. I found I had to apply 2-3 layers of colour before it was noticeable. Eventually I ended up simply pressing harder while applying the layers (which possibly led to RSI for my wrist). In the end, after applying as many layers as the paper could take, the overall colour saturation was not very high.

This is the second one . 

The portrait was the first one I did on this page. The idea was inspired by a photo in a fashion store where the model had contrasting colours on her from makeup. I tried to do something similar, except more with lighting.

The next one was the orange soldier at the bottom. I didn't have a good idea of what to draw when I started, so the pose and armour design didn't come out too well .

I think the girl in the sci-fi suit came out a bit better . I already had a decent idea of the picture while I was still on the armoured man.

Finally I started trying to mix colours and experiment with how different colours could be used for adding light and darkness. I only had 12 colours to work with; hence the fairly quick move to experimentation.

Colours are dull mainly due to the cheap quality of pencils I was using. The pencils were hard and little pigmentation made its way on to the page.
